Monastery of Archangel Michail

Mountain Area Villages

It was built in 1080 A.C and it is a women monastery that belongs to the Monastery of Philotheos of Agio Oros (Mt. Athos). Its main characteristic is Timios Ilos ( a part of the nails that used to crucify Jesus Christ) which is kept inside. Every year many people come to visit the monastery. The second day of Easter, the icon of Archangel Michail is moved from Metohi, a small chapel in Theologos, to the Monastery, stays there over night, and the next day is moved back to Metohi to its started position. Some days when the atmosphere is clear, you can see the outline of Mountain Athos, a truly beautiful sight.
